Car Seat Recalls
Car seat safety doesn’t end with purchasing and installing the right product; staying informed about recalls is essential to ensure your car seat remains safe for use.
Register your car seat or Booster Seat
When you buy your car seat or booster seat, fill out and mail in the registration card that comes with it or register online through the manufacturer’s website. You’ll need the model name, model number, and date of manufacture from the seat label. This registration allows manufacturers to contact you in case of a recall.
Check the Recall List
Occasionally, manufacturers issue recalls due to defects that could harm your child. Before purchasing a new or used car seat, check the federal recall list or the latest recall list for safety notices.
Manufacturers are required to fix any issues free of charge, often by sending replacement parts without needing the seat returned.
Report Any Issues
If you suspect your car seat has a safety defect, report it online or contact your car seat manufacturer directly to report any issues you are experiencing with your car seat or booster seat.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offers a searchable database for car seat and vehicle-related recalls. You can search by brand name or model. Additionally, consider downloading NHTSA’s free SaferCar app, which will alert you to any safety recalls for your car seat or vehicle. You can also sign up for general recall alerts via email.
