Backless Booster Seats
Backless Booster Seats
Watch this demonstration of using a backless booster seat.
Backless booster seats are for children who have outgrown the height or weight limits of their forward-facing car seats and are at least age 4 years old. Check the weight and height limits to ensure your child will meet the requirements according to the car seat manufacturer of the booster seat. There are two types of booster seats: high-back boosters and backless boosters.
A backless booster seat is best suited for children who know the importance of keeping their seat belt positioned correctly throughout the ride, but still need an extra boost for proper seat belt placement.
Minnesota law requires that you keep your child in booster seat using the vehicle lap belt and shoulder belt until age least 9 years old, or until the child has outgrown the booster seat by the height or weight limits, according to the car seat manufacturer. Additionally, the child can pass the 5-Step Test to ensure proper seat belt fit.
When installing a backless booster seat, follow both the car seat manufacturer’s manual and the vehicle owner’s manual. It’s also recommended to have your booster seat installation checked by a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.
